Match Report | Man of the Match......... Luke Archer The second match of the weekend for Old Wulfs was against Bromsgrove who are deservedly top of the league and are well ahead of Stone in second place. Just this information alone made Old Wulfs well aware that this was not going to be a walk in the park. Old Wulfs started off with a lot of defending to do as Bromsgrove went on the offensive down the wings instantly and really abused Old Wulfs’ lack of full backs and Bromsgrove were able to go ahead with a deflection which threatened Old Wulfs and left them wondering how many goals they were going to concede however they came out fighting and managed to fend off Bromsgrove well with an oustanding performance from Luke Archer in goal alongside the defenders putting in strong challenges and finding outlets in the midfield to hopefully start a counter attack, however no attacks came from these long balls and half time ended 1-0 to Bromsgrove. The second half started much stronger for Old Wulfs than the first half and the second half in general saw a lot more attacks on goal compared to the first half. Old Wulfs were a lot more confident on the ball in the second half thanks to a change in formation. Seb and Adam were able to get some shots off against the keeper but were unfortunate not to find a finish. The second half also saw many short corners which eventually lead to a goal from Elliot with a strong and confident injection from Owain, straight to Elliot who pushes the ball on target just hard enough for the keeper to not be able to keep it out and equalises the game in the dying minutes. Unfortunately Bromsgrove replied instantly with some strong dribbling from a Bromsgrove midfielder with a pass through to the player on the back post who calmly finishes in the dying seconds to win them the game 2-1. A disappointing result for Old Wulfs but a really strong performance from the lads and they all managed to create an entertaining game of Hockey against such formidable opponents. Hopefully with more hockey like that the boys should be looking at a few more wins in their final games! |
