Match Report | A good afternoon for Old Wulfs in a hard fought game against Stafford. The opening phases of the game saw a wrestle for dominance with both sides being unable to enjoy long periods of possession. As the first half progressed Stafford began to create chances but thankfully were unable to find a way past an alert Craig. Wulfs grew into the game and a flicked ball through from McNay found Buckley who was there to calmly slot home. This gave wulfs confidence and it seemed like we would go into half time on top, but Stafford countered well and a loose ball into the D wasn't cleared resulting in a leveller. Stafford were far from out of the game and the last 20 minutes were very uncomfortable for wulfs with several near misses ringing alarm bells. Stafford thought they'd finally found the equaliser only for Craig to dive full stretch to his right to tip the ball round the post, a save of such quality that even the Stafford players applauded. The whole wulfs defence deserves credit as Stafford threw everything at wulfs but were unable to find a way through. A special mention must go to Chris Nightingale, who made everyone chuckle after managing to get his stick caught in the side netting just as Stafford were injecting a short corner. Something Craig described as "like seeing a seabird caught in a fishing net". |
