Match Report | A disappointing result in a game in which we were the better team for long periods. In the first half we took the game to Lichfield, controlling the midfield and started to create some half chances. Eventually the pressure told and Lally fed O'Sullivan to take the lead. Lichfield then lost a man to yellow card for reckless challenge. This seemed to spur on the home side and they gained a foothold in the game. They thought they had equalised only for Carver to clear off the line. Minutes later a goal was awarded to Lichfield although many Wulfs players felt that Jones had kept the ball from crossing the goal line. Before the break there was still time for Artist to craft an aerial shot which the goalie palmed off the line. The 2nd half was an even affair with both sides going for a winner. Tustin had some powerful runs into the D, Lally forced the keeper into a fine leg save but we couldn't make the breakthrough. From one of our half chances a Lichfield player hit the ball out on the touch line, Wulfs felt that a short corner should have been awarded, but the umpire disagreed. As often happens when the your luck isn't in Lichfield stole possession and worked the ball down the other end to score. There was still time for a final Wulfs chance, Lally diving on the floor to connect to a through ball, unfortunately his shot went just wide, doubley unfortunate as the defender landed on him while on the floor (ouch). A great performance from the entire team which didn't deserve the scoreline. Particularly impressive the work rate of Tustin who worked well with Anderson and Artist in the engine room. Next week a home game against fellow strugglers Telford. |
