Match Report

We travelled to fellow strugglers Sutton Coldfield 7ths on the back of some good performances however without the results to match.

The game itself was an all action affair with both teams keen to attack. The trio of Cartwright, O'Sullivan and Duhra began to stretch the Sutton defence and O'Sullivan soon gave Wulfs the lead. It looked inevitable that the lead would be stretched but instead a series of near misses from Duhra, O'Sullivan and Wall B. Sutton then did some attacking of their own and flipped the game on its head with two quick goals. Wulfs continued to attack and make chances, just before half time they equalised with their best attack of the half, Duhra out wide fed O'Sullivan for a 1 on 1 with the keeper, rather than shoot he waited for a late far post run and Wall I swept home.

The 2nd half had distinct sense of dejavu about it. O'Sullivan scored again to make it 3-2. The game was still stretched but Sutton equalised. They then scored again from a disputed short corner (a hint of foot in the build-up). However the Wulfs were not going to give up, in the last ten minutes they laid siege to the Sutton goal. The keeper saved from  O'Sullivan, Duhra, Cartwright and Mann. Finally pressure told and O'Sullivan swept home an equaliser and a hat trick goal. There was still time for a big finish, a goal bound shot was stopped by a defender with a stretched leg, Wulfs looked hopefully at the umpire but he signalled only a short corner. In the last minute another contact by a defender's foot, the umpire blew, Wulfs prepared to send everyone forward for the short corner only to be informed that the whistle was blown for the end of the game.

So the spoils were shared, unlucky Wulfs but a good team performance.

The day ended very strangely with 8 of our team and the opposition captain all being locked in the Bishop Vesey school car park for about 30 minutes. The hat trick hero O'Sullivan again saving the day by climbing the gate and guessing the code on the gate. (I hope he bought a lottery ticket that evening)

Next week welcome Bridgnorth to WGS.
