Match Report | Old Wulfs welcomed the league leaders Edgbaston to a cold afternoon at WGS. In a line-up showing seven changes from the previous week, the home side struggled to find any pattern and were soon two goals down. The story continued for the rest the half with the away side bossing the game and adding two more goals before the break. Half time brought a reshuffle and a team eager to make a better impression against our talented opposition. The half started badly with Wall (B) taking a knock just below his knee from a lifted ball. Unfortunately he had to leave for the rest of the game, but fortunately this week we had a sub. Wulfs fought to stifle the opposition game and started to win more of the 50-50 challenges. The defence held firm and we even started to make an impression in the attacking half. Harrison cleverly fed Duhra for a 1 on 1 with the keeper, he tried to manoeuvre around the keeper but couldn't get a shot on target. Wall (I) then broke through the opposition back line but as he entered the D couldn't get his pass through to Duhra. In another attack we won a short. Duhra out to Mann who shot at the keeper, the keeper fluffed his kick and we were on the scoresheet. Unfortunately we couldn't complete the shut out for the half and conceded a late goal. A much better second half than first and some signs of promise for the weeks ahead. A promising 4th team debut for young Ben Wall which unfortunately finished earlier than expected. A thank you to all those who stepped in to the breach this week to cover a lengthy list of absences. We had players today making early returns from sickness and injury as well as players being asked to play in positions alien to them. I applaud your efforts for the team and the club. Next week we travel to Shrewsbury for a midday start. |
