Match Report | man of the match Matt willies
This week’s match hosted a Market Drayton side that was close to taking away Old Wulfs’ first win of 2017 however despite them putting up a very tough fight were unable to find a result against an old Wulfs side that was in very good form. The game started off the same way every game starts now. Old Wulfs have made it a routine to go all out as soon as the game starts and they managed to snatch the ball off of Market Drayton within the first few minutes and nearly devise a counter attack which could have led to a goal however they were unfortunate not to find glory from this attack. But the chances didn’t stop there. Old Wulfs were unlucky not to score first and went 1-0 down to a well worked short corner from Market Drayton. However Old Wulfs’ fighting spirits pushed them to eventually equalise a while later within the first half as Jandu collects a rebound off of his first shot on goal and rifles it into the roof of the net. Just before the first half ended Market Drayton played an elegant long ball through to one of their attackers which looked as if it were going to lead to their second goal however Craig comes up with a brilliant save to keep the score level and the first half ended at 1-1. Old Wulfs went all out as soon as the second half started as the sought a goal to put them ahead in such an end to end game. However Market Drayton managed to put their side ahead from a short corner that just wasn’t cleared away well enough and with the score being 2-1 now, Old Wulfs were put under a lot of pressure to find an equalising goal. However clearly in this situation pressure makes diamonds as a short corner was awarded and was calmly put away by Jandu which levelled the score and Old Wulfs were more confident to try and clinch the 3 points… which they did with a humdinger of a crack by Matt who hit the ball so hard that the keeper was unable to keep the ball out of his goal and this late wonder strike gave Old Wulfs the win in such a tough game against a very strong and worthy side. So an amazing performance by the boys in red this week and this should be the first win of many in 2017 through to the end of the season. |
