Match Report | Man of match Seb Rickets The first game in 2017 saw Old Wulfrunians host a threatening Streetly side and the game turned out to be one of the most entertaining and end to end games of the 2016-17 season so far! The game started no different to how Old Wulfs started before the Christmas break. The boys had definitely not lost their rhythm and passion for the game over the break and they managed to put up a very good fight from the get go against a team that had originally beaten them at the start of the season. It was evident that Streetly had also not forgotten how to play hockey as they also managed to devise many great opportunities from the start of the game much like Old Wulfs did. Both teams fashioned brilliant counter attacks however the first goal came from Old Wulfs with O’Sullivan calmly slotting the ball away after a marvellous ball coming in from Rob outside the D. this was a brilliant sign for Old Wulfs and this gave the confidence to create many other opportunities which they were unfortunately not able to convert however they did see out the first period of the game with them in the lead and arguably looking like the stronger side. The second half came and Old Wulfs were prepared to fight for this win that they well and truly deserved and after many chances were still arguably looking like the more dominant side in the game. Within this second half Streetly looked like they were about to score until Craig pulls of an acrobatic double save to keep the score 1-0. However Streetly soon found their stride after a few mishaps and they managed to convert two strong counter-attacks into goals. Old Wulfs were now on the back foot however they battled hard for another goal and managed to win many consecutive short corners that Jandu only narrowly managed to put wide. But this meant that Old Wulfs’ unbeaten run had come to an end by a rather strong Streetly side who had won the game 2-1. So not the best result for Old Wulfs to kick off 2017 however if they manage to keep up with that level of hockey in the future games to come then they should have no problem in securing many victories in this half of the season. |
