Match Report | In this week’s game Old Wulfrunians came up against a ferocious Bloxwich side that put up an extraordinary fight against an Old Wulfs side that has been dominant throughout the season. This game was certainly one of the toughest matches that Old Wulfs have faced this season. Despite the Old Wulfs lads not knowing what type of game they were in for, they entered the as determined as ever, pushing hard to try and break down the opposition’s defence and looking to grab an early goal to give them momentum in the game. However the team were unlucky to concede a short corner in the first 3 minutes and then not long after that concede another goal to put Bloxwich up 2-0 very early on. However this did not scare Old Wulfs who bounced back and grabbed 2 very vital goals, one coming from Minton who slapped the ball into the goal off of a short corner and then shortly after that goal Evans puts the ball into the goal to make it 2-2 and then the game became anyone’s for the taking. Old Wulfs did not finish there however because shortly after Old Wulfs’ second goal Willies puts Old Wulfs up 3-2 and this really helped with Old Wulfs’ confidence after being 2-0 down. The first half consisted of lots of attacking play from both sides, both quick counter attacks and slow passing play but as soon as the score hit 3-2 both teams went into a stalemate and neither team could finish their chances, this was partly due to some excellent keeping from Thomas in goal for Old Wulfs and also Bloxwich’s keeper. The first half finished 3-2 with Old Wulfs feeling very optimistic. The second half was much like the first half with lots of attacking play and flowing movement from both teams however no goals seemed to arise from such play. Acton makes a miraculous run down the right hand side which threatened Bloxwich’s midfield and defence considerably however no goal came from the chance. Despite the freezing conditions and a fairly slippery pitch that the game was played on Old Wulfs played well but unfortunately did concede a Bloxwich equaliser fairly late within the second half from a Bloxwich attacker just about managing to score off of a rebounded shot that Thomas was unable to defend. In the dying minutes of the match Willies and Evans did their best to attack the oppositions D as best they could but despite their brilliant attempts were unable to find a goal in the second half. The final whistle blew and the game finished 3-3 which was a very fair result. So after another game of the season Old Wulfs still maintain an impressive record of being undefeated after good amount of games so far and hopefully they can keep up this good form in the games to come. |
