Match Report | The season resumed after a long Christmas break for Wulfs and nothing says Happy New Year like a trip away to Wednesbury. We received the usual friendly welcome but for most of the game managed to not let it bother us. This was a solid team performance in a now settled Wulfs team, with everyone working for each other. The first goal came from a short corner routine that has worked well all season, the ball was slipped back to injector Chris Nightingale who confidently smashed it into the bottom corner for an early lead. Keeping it in the family, the second came as a ball was played to the top of the D with Wulfs on the break, Cal Nightingale controlled it, turned and quickly swished a reverse stick at the ball, leaving both teams speechless as the net rippled, an absolute worldy! Wednesbury started to come to life towards the end of the half and were able to squeeze through and put pressure on Wulfs by scoring to make it 1-2 at the break. Wulfs were unphased by this and were able to regain control with some good work in the middle from Upton and Roberts, who had their fair share of aggressive tackles come their way but were unphased throughout. The third came with a good run from McNay resulting in the ball being cut back to the P spot for Buckley to power home and dash any Wednesbury hopes of causing an upset. The 4th and final goal came as an alert Cal was able to take a ball off the keepers pads and calmly slot the ball into the goal. A composed performance from the youngster today and the opposition were quick to compliment him after the game. This was a great start to the second half of the season and everyone on the pitch had a good game. One person however stood out. Al Brown was a brick wall, dealing with everything that came his way and making sure nobody was going to get past him. Man of the match - Al Brown |
