2nd Team Vs Wolverhampton

This week saw Wulfs visit Wolverhampton for an eagerly awaited derby match and the game didn't disappoint. From the outset Wulfs were creating chances and it wasn't long before a shot was stopped on the line by a Wolverhampton foot, resulting in a penalty stroke. This was confidently put away by Upton for an early 0-1 lead. 

Wulfs didn't quite manage to get the hold on the game we wanted from then on though and the game was very open, resulting in end to end play which was probably good to watch for a neutral but frustrating for us. Wulfs were at times impatient in possession and looked for a wonder ball too often, this meant at half time there was still an uncomfortable 0-1 scoreline.

The second half started badly with Wolverhampton managing to squeeze a ball through the wulfs lines and score an equaliser. We could consider ourselves unfortunate with an infringement in the build up not seen by the umpires, but there was a brilliant response from the team and quickly wulfs were in full control of the game. Upton and Roberts ran the midfield well and only a matter of minutes after the equaliser, we were back in front with a tidy finish from Tibble. 

This goal left Wolverhampton visibly frustrated and their pushing forward played into our hands with gaps appearing and more Wulfs chances being created. The third goal came with possibly the biggest stroke of luck we'll see this season. A Chris Nightingale ball into the D was elevated and an effort by McNay to control it resulted in the ball spinning off towards the Wolverhampton goal, with a surprised keeper able to do nothing but help it into his own goal. The game was put to bed with a ball in by Cal Nightingale going through several players before being tapped in by McNay. 

This was a very good win with some strong performances. Mentions must go to Al Brown, Elliot Gwilt and Luke Archer who all had a very strong game. Man of the match went to Richie Roberts who was creative in midfield and quick to shut down attempts at breaks by Wolverhampton. The league season is put on pause now until the new year, with the win leaving us in a good position near the top of the league.
