Match Report

This week Old Wulfs hosted Redditch, who were flying high in 2nd in the table. The last match  between the two sides was a 4-0 win to Redditch in one of the worst Old Wulfs performances of the season and all in the first team wanted to put the score right.

Straight from the first whistle Old Wulfs got stuck in and pressed Redditch, this forced mistakes by the Redditch players, who ended up resulting to the long ball tactic and aerials for most of the game. However Old Wulfs were stuck a blow when Ablard pulled up with his reoccurring hamstring injury and was unable to continue. A quick shuffle in the midfield and Old Wulfs had to re find their tempo. Despite all the Old Wulfs pressure and short corners won the score remained 0-0 at half time.

The second half began like the first Old Wulfs pressing and winning the ball high up the pitch. Old Wulfs had to be careful of Redditch’s counter attacking game and on a few occasions did break through the midfield press, however they were immediately met with Old Wulfs defenders stepping out and winning the ball back or breaking down of play. Old Wulfs finally found their break through goal after 15 minute into the game when Palmer took at quick free hit inside the opposition 25, played into Birch who put a pass in across the face of Goal. Ed Hole missed the pass, however Sam following in behind scored the tap by flicking it over the diving keeper. Redditch attempted to find an equalising goal, but rarely threatened. Even when Birch gave a short corner away for holding onto the ball in his own D (school boy error!) Redditch were unable to find any break through. Through out the game Old Wulfs created chances down the right with Owen Shave on many occasions being the creative spark and easily passing the Redditch left back. The second goal came 10 minutes later when Sam turned provider, after some good play down the right Sam drove the baseline and passed square across the D for Ed to tap in. This goal killed the game as a competition as Redditch seemed resigned to losing the game. In the final few minutes of the game Old Wulfs played for time by passing the ball round the back and keeping the ball in the opposition corners. 2-0 the final score.
