Match Report

This week Old Wulfs faced a Yardley side who has narrowly lost 3-1 to Redditch the week before. Old Wulfs gave a debut to Sam Aldersley in attack and welcomed back Dave Ward to the team. Owen Shave was an absentee as his dog ate his homework that was due in on Monday.

Old Wulfs started well and raced in to a 2-0 lead. The first came after Griff reacted quickest after a short corner was saved. Griff collected the rebound and slotted in Ablard for a deflection in. The second came after Ablard drove to the baseline and looked to pass to Griff for a deflection, however the Yardley defender deflected into his own net for 2-0. The game then went into a small stalemate between Old Wulfs and their ability to score. Birch shot wide when the pass onto Griff was easier. Adam shot over from the top of the D and Kam tried to clear the safety net and put the ball on to the football pitches. Despite missing a host of opportunities Old Wulfs kept pressing and were finally rewarded when Litchy found space at the penalty flick spot. He collected a cut back and his reverse stick shot found the inside of the netting. 3-0 at half time.

The second half started as the first finished with Old Wulfs on the attack and after a scramble in The D Sam Alderlsey calmly finished on the reverse for 4-0. Old Wulfs then forgot their defensive duties and allowed a rare Yardley attack to get through and subsequently score much to the annoyance of the Old Wulfs defence and Colin in goal who had been solid. Despite conceding Old Wulfs continued to press knowing there were more goals in the game. However the game became scrappy for around 15 minutes in the second half as players switched off and started to dive in giving away fouls and not playing the ball around.  This meant players resorted to running with the ball too much, however after weathering this rough patch Old Wulfs found their stride again. Griff grabbed the 5th after some good build up play from Kam on the right. Griff with his back to goal worked some space and slotted in on the reverse. Birch made it 6-1 with some good link up play between Birch Palmer and Griff. Birch and Griff worked the ball down the wing, Griff pulled the ball back out to Palmer who found Birch unmarked who passed the ball past an exposed Yardley keeper. Litchy got his second of the game when a flowing Old Wulfs move involving Ablard, Griff, Litchy and Palmer, found Ablard at the top of the D. He picked out Litchy and he shot first time through the the keepers legs for 7-1. There were more opportunities to score for Old Wulfs, Sam Aldersley missing an opportunity to slip in Griff at the back post after Palmer had played in Sam in acres of space, he opted to shoot rather than pass and the chance was saved. Despite the missed opportunities it's a building platform for the next game where Old Wulfs will look to improve again.
