Match Report | After a good win the week before against Pershore, Old Wulfs looked to build some momentum for the season with another good performance against Evesham. Old Wulfs had Simon Palmer returning from injury and James Cox playing for Old Wulfs for the first time.
The match started with Old Wulfs on top from get go, passing and moving the ball around the back and getting great success up the wings. The goal of the game from one such break down the left, Shave cut in field and played the ball under his left shoulder to Litchy, who had snuck round the entire Evesham defence, including the keeper as he deflected in over a desperate attempted save from the Evesham keeper 1-0. 2-0 shortly followed from attack down the right, this time the ball got through to shave around the flick spot. Shave created some space and reversed stick shot into the corner. Old Wulfs continued to dominate the half, picking up all the aerials and hit and hopes Evesham threw out of the defence. Despite the possession Old Wulfs had it remained 2-0 at half time.
Despite the dominant display Old Wulfs had in the game they knew scoring the next goal was critical and it did not take Old Wulfs long to finish where they left off. Litchy grabbing his second of the game had an easy tap in at the back post after good build up play allowed Griff time to pick his pass to Litchy. James switching between midfield and striker caused Evesham problems when he cut in off the right wing. After James had got into the Dee and the keeper had planked to the ground it seemed that James would get his first goal for the club. His placed his shot wide of goal after doing all the hard work, but Griff following up deflected the shot in at head height for 4-0. Evesham managed to pull a goal back through a penalty corner, but it did not stop Old Wulfs scoring 3 more goals. Birch got the 5th as Kam drove up the right, rode a few challenges and then drilled the ball in for Birch to deflect on the reverse. Griff got the 6th after a perfectly worked penalty corner routine and Shave got the 7th after Litchy laid it on a plate at the back post. A great performance by Old Wulfs, where the score line actually doesn’t quite do the team justice. Next week the team will face a stern test away at Redditch.
