Match Report | Old Wulfs looked to put the disappointing loss to Wolverhampton the week before behind them with a victory over Pershore. Old Wulfs welcomed back Ben Humpherson to the side after a week out. Pershore started the better, putting on a high press and forcing the Old Wulfs defence into mistakes. DC forgot what team he was playing for and passed the ball to a Pershore centre forward. Colin seemed to have dug Dave out a hole when he saved the strikers shot, however Ben running in on the cover deflected the ball into the net. 0-1. Going behind seemed to rattle Old Wulfs and Pershore pressed finding space and time to pick their passes. Colin kept Old Wulfs in the game with a superb save when 1 on 1 with a Pershore striker. After 10 minutes of Pershore pressure Old Wulfs settled into the game and started to pass the ball around. An attack down the left found Litchy getting into the Dee after riding a few Pershore challenges. Litchy calmly slotted the ball to Shave who deflected into an empty net. 1-1 The equaliser changed the flow of the game and Old Wulfs became the more dominant side carving chances with greater eases and passes being played around the back with more zip. Shave made good progress down the right and having got the ball to the baseline cut it back for Birch, his shot destined for the top corner was deflected away by a Pershore head. Fortunately the Pershore player was not seriously injured and walked away with a lump on his forehead and no doubt a headache to follow. Old Wulfs continued to dominate the half and won a series of short corners, which resulted in Old Wulfs taking a 3-1 lead into half time. The first was an Abalrd deflection in to the roof of the net of a Birch strike 2-1. The second was a rebound for Litchy. Birch's initial shot hit the right hand post and rolled out to Litchy who reacted quickest and slotted it in the net 3-1. The second half began as the first half ended with Old Wulfs on top and with Old Wulfs winning plenty of short corners. Birch got Old Wulfs 4th of the game with a short corner strike into the left hand corner. Birch doubled his tally for the game with another short corner strike. The first shot was saved by the keeper but his kick fell straight back to Birch who placed it in the bottom right corner 5-1. Birch then got his hatrick with another short corner strike for 6-1. At this point Birch had not realised he would be buying a jug at the end of the game! Old Wulfs seemed to get too comfortable and stopped passing the ball around and invited Pershore pressure on to the defence. Pershore could have scored a few more goals but put chances narrowly wide of the post. And a few more goals for Pershore would have been deserved for the chances they created. In the last 5 minutes Old Wulfs carved out some additional chances one which fell the way of Adam. The keeper charged out to close the shot down, but Adam chipped the ball up over the keeper into the goal for 7-1. The game was played in good spirit by both sides except for a little bit of hand bags at the end. Overall a good solid performance but with plenty of things to work on.
