1st Team Vs Wolverhampton

In the first league game of the season Old Wulfs took on an old foe Wolverhampton, who had been relegated along side Old Wulfs last season. 

The game started in a traditional Old Wulfs fashion, with DC getting changed on the side of the pitch during the women's game and Will Ashworth arriving and then immediately leaving Aldersley as he had forgotten his Astros at home. 

The game itself was more measured from both sides with Wolverhampton sitting back and soaking up pressure and hitting on the counter attack. One early counter attack forced Simon Palmer off with an Achilles injury, one which would prevent him from return to playing field.

Both keepers were kept busy with Luke being forced into early saves one which tweak him hamstring. Birch shot wide after good build up play from Kam and Adam on the right. Litchy narrowly missed after being fed in by Shave. 0-0 at half time.

The second half began with Old Wulfs more on the front foot playing the ball around and breaking through a stubborn Wolverhampton side. Birch breaking through the midfield and running through on the Dee was up ended with a challenge that I can only describe as none of the ball, all of the man. The Wolverhampton player only receiving a green card for what was a deliberate obstruction. Against the run of play Wolverhampton took the lead, taking a free him from the wrong place and not ensuring the ball had moved 5 meters they got a lucky break as Old Wulfs had not set. 

Despite the score line Old Wulfs continued to dominate possession and created more chances one being cleared off the line will a fortunate block as Will looked certain the score. As Wolverhampton had the lead they did not venture out of their 25 and when under pressure resorted to throwing aerials and hitting the ball away down the pitch for a breather. When Old Wulfs got in and around the Dee Wolverhampton broke down play by body checking, stick checking and even rugby tacking players to stop any attack, these were only penalised with green cars or free hits when on another day yellows could have been shown. 

A tough loss to take for Old Wulfs as they were the better team on the day and one lack of concentration cost them. Plenty of positives to take forward. This is just the first game of many in a long season ahead.
