Match Report |
The badgers faced Lichfield without some of the more experienced players Tom, Sahib and the mighty Harj. It was going to be a tough one with lots of 8 to 11 year olds on the pitch. Ben took up his brothers position right of midfield and Paul took up position at centre foward. Billy, James and Dan Taylor lined up in defence, Jack was in his regular position and Joe, Rajveer and Harry made up the remaining part of attack. Jake was front of midfield. Lichfield were much older and started positively, putting pressure on our defence and Dan in goal. The badgers however had the best of the possession and played wide passing hockey well. On one push forward, Lichfield got a bit lucky and there was a soft goal. A similar pattern followed, but with plenty of chances for the badgers as Jack, Jake and Ben bossed midfield. Lichfield however were more clinical in the D and slotted another two home. 3-0 at half time, a repeat of last week. The second half was more of the same, but the tide started to turn as the badgers' fitness and great passing started to wear Licfield down. After about 10 good chances, Paul finally found himself strong on goal and finished it perfectly. More pressure followed and with 10 minutes to go Rajveer found himself on the back post with a ball hurtling towards him, he seemed very surprised after putting his stick down and getting a fabulous tap in. 2-3, with not much time. The badgers pressed in the last few minutes and given 10 more would certainly have scored again. Truly great performance from our youngest side ever. Rajveer and Joe won man of the match. Well done everyone!
