Match Report |
A very young team (6 players under 11) faced a more experienced and bigger Wednesbury in very cold conditions. Wednesbury started strongly, but the Badgers ran their socks off defending and covering. They absorbed attack after attack, James at right back and Ben in left midfield defended excellently. The Badgers started to take control of play and began to make some attacking inroads through Thomas in midfield and Sahib and Paul up front. However, Wednesbury made some good breaks and on one occasion, scrambled the ball in for a soft goal. Later in the first half, another break and after some good passing hockey, Wednesbury had another tap in, 2-0 at half time. We then lost our keeper Dan to the cold, a result of the badger's dominance. More of the same in the second half, but the Badgers attitude and effort paid off as they again dominated possession. Sahib, Paul and Harry proved difficult to handle in attack and Dan and James covered when needed in defence. The chances came and went in front of goal, including a few shorts. At least two chances saw cracking shots on target from Sahib, but alas no goals. 0-0 in the second half was a bit of a result. We deserved more, but it was great to be able to compete, even with a very young team. Sahib was voted man of the match by his team, great effort in attack. Well done everyone, every player had a great game.
