Match Report | Old Wulfs entertained Sutton 7ths who have struggled this season but have picked up of late. Sutton arrived with a very youthful line up, however Old Wulfs were in for a shock with the quality of play from the youngsters. For the first 20 minutes we were completely outplayed and the visitors should have been several goals to the good. Fortunately for the Wulfs the opposition finishing was not as effective as their approach play. Wulfs found a foothold in the game and won a series of short corners. From one of these Harrison fed Artist who scooped the ball into the net. Sutton reacted and almost immediately levelled. Again against the run of play Lally robbed the last defender and the ball fell to Evans who smashed the ball past the keepers inside post from an acute angle. Just before half time Sutton equalised for the 2nd time, an unfortunate pass into the goal from our Hungarian guest Carless. Half time and the skipper decided to make changes, moving to a three man forward line. The 2nd half proved to be more even in terms of possession, but again Wulfs looked more potent. From a hit in just outside the D, Lally followed the curve of the D before entering and putting in a cross shot which was deflected pass the keeper. The next 15 minutes bought a wing play masterclass from young Samra. He absolutely terrified the opposition defenders. From one of his runs he crossed for Lally to score. He then converted one of his own runs sweeping past the keeper. Between these two goals Sutton scored to cut the gap. There were still chances for Samra and Carless (this time at the right end) to increase the goal tally but the goal wouldn't come. A 5-3 win in a game we were dominated for much of. |
