Match Report | In all my years of playing hockey the weather for Saturday's away fixture at Cannock was some of the most unpleasant. Cold wet and miserable summed up the mood for long sections of the game. However the Wulfs never gave in against a talented Cannock side who have certainly strengthened this half of the season. Cannock bossed the possession in the first half stretching the Wulfs regularly but were limited to a handful of chances, unfortunately they scored two of them (the first after Old Wulfs appeals for a stick tackle went unheeded). Without the possession Wulfs still created more chances in the first half, Lally being the main culprit missing a trio of good chances. Samra almost scored a great goal when running onto a lifted pass, gliding past his marker but being thwarted by the keepers feet. The 2nd half saw Cannock continue to control possession and a third goal came. Wulfs refused to give in and continued to create chances. The 16 yard hit ins from Hill proving an excellent launch pad for the attack. With 10 minutes to go an excellent passing move found Murray who shot only for the defender to kick the certain goal away. Harrison came up to take the resulting stroke, but was thwarted by the keepers legs. Far from breaking the Wulfs spirit, the team continued to attack, in the best passing move of the game, Harrison slipped the ball to Lally who found Murray out wide, Murray crossed for O'Sullivan to slam home. Minutes later Harrison fed Lally at the top of the D, with the defender approaching from his left and the keeper charging out, Lally flicked the ball sideways and rolled the ball home. Unfortunately there wasn't time for an equaliser, Cannock relieved at a narrow win. Talking points - the Cannock umpire officiating the first 10 minutes of the game without a whistle then having to borrow one off our skipper. Secondly the lack of hot water in the showers on such a miserable day. Cannock made up for this with some much appreciated hot food and being good hospitable hosts. Next week home against Finchfield. |
