Match Report | The 4th team travelled to very cold Sutton Coldfield for their latest league fixture. The pitch contained a frozen patch but was deemed safe enough to play on. After a few late cry offs Sutton 7ths started the game with ten men. Starting the game against our weakened opponents, who began the day winless and bottom of the league you would expect only a positive outcome. Unfortunately life doesn't work like that. In a completely one sided first half Old Wulfs just couldn't put the ball in the net. A half dozen or so chances not completed. As the half progressed a little anxiety set in and passes were not completed and the opposition gained a foothold. The umpires then took exception to some Buckley tackling and showed him a green card. On his return his next challenge was penalised with a yellow card. It definitely wasn't Buckley' s day (more on that later). In the 2nd half Wulfs refocused and continued to create chances. Evans finally made the breakthrough converting past the keeper from his own fine run. Buckley then had a fine run from the half way line that resulted in a short corner, unfortunately he took a blow from an opposition stick where no man deserves to be hit with a hockey stick. Buckley had to leave the field (I did say it wasn't his day, he later confirmed some bruising). The pattern of the half continued, but with no second goal Sutton always had a chance. Finally with some good interplay between Dilraj and Murray, Lally swept home a 2nd goal. The game ended with another set of cards. Skipper Hamilton reacted to an opposition challenge, the opposition player reacted by lunging for the skipper. Cue a green card for the opposition player and a yellow for Hamilton (hmmmm). To complete a strange afternoon, no hot water in the showers. Enough to deter most of us but not Dillworth. Back to winning ways. |
