Match Report | After a weeks break we took on local rivals Cannock 7ths. We lined up with our normal 4-3-3 formation. Included in the line up were John Ashmore down for the weekend and 4th team debutant Harj Duhra. Cannock bossed the game for the first 20 minutes and any positive result seemed unlikely. Captain Hamilton decided change was required, Churn moved from attack to supplement the midfield. Old Wulfs gained a foothold in the game and started to craft chances. A first time volley from Lally caught the keepers pads, Murray inches from turning in a deflected shot and finally a saved first time Lally shot from an excellent Murray run and cross. At half time the skipper asked for continued effort and the team didn't disappoint. Dilworth marshalled his excellent back 4 of Munn, Hill, Duhra and Carved who strangled any Cannock attacking creativity. Duhra in particular limpet like in his man to man marking. In midfield the tenacity and tackling of young Buckley and Churn supplementing the wise old heads of Ashmore and Harrison. The home side started to take control and carve out chances. The first goal was a little fortuitous with a good run and cross from Murray shot goalbound by Lally, a defender interceded but could only deflect into his own net. Hill was unlucky when his short corner shot came off the post. Another short corner came, this time finished well by Harrison off the post. More chances came but we couldn't increase the lead. At the end of the game Captain Hamilton told the team he felt it was the best 4th team performance in the last 2 seasons. 2-0 win against Cannock, enough said.
