Match Report | This weekend saw a top of the table (ish) clash against a resurgent Redditch. The match started quite evenly with little of interest to note apart from a significant amount of appealing for decisions from both sides which earned both sides a rebuke from the umpires. The appealing continued but the first goal of the game from some good work between Ryan and Matt (I think) which saw the ball break to Jandu in the D and he slammed the ball past the keeper. Old Wulfs could have gone 2-0 up when Tibble received the ball on the penalty spot with the keeper on the floor. He lifted the ball over the keeper but the diminutive keeper stuck out his glove to keep the ball out. There was then a period of Redditch rampaging into our D which saw them have a goal disallowed for hitting a foot first and a second disallowed as the whistle had been blown a split second before to award a short corner. A rejuvenated Redditch finally got their goal from a short corner with what turned out to the last touch of the first half. Second half again started pretty even with few clear cut chances. Stu Upton worked tirelessly in the heart of midfield and Luke put in some good stops. We managed to re-take the lead when an unmarked (ghosted in on his twinkle toes) Tibble got the ball top of the D and hit it first time past the keeper. This sparked scenes of unparalleled jubilation, which everyone managed to contain as we trudged back to the halfway line. A rambunctious Redditch continued to push and got their reward with a superb reverse stick shot (after being given a bit too much space and time) that flew past Luke before he could react. Redditch had chance to win in the last minute after being awarded a dubious short corner, fortunately they failed to convert. Game finished 2-2 which, despite the strop/sulk of our illustrious leader, was a fair result. |
