Match Report | First game back after Christmas and with the usual cobwebs to blow off and only 11 players it was a potentially difficult game. Droitwich started well and applied the early pressure. However a good tackle from Andy Cooper and pass down the wing to Tibble, who beat his man, played a quick 1-2 with Jandu (yes, Jandu passed the ball in the D) and slotted the ball over the keeper, settled early nerves. Droitwich continued to pressure but score remained 1-0 at half time. Second half started pretty much the same, good Droitwich pressure but fortunately their front line couldn't hit a barn door. We moved further ahead when Jandu received the ball in the D, turned on a six pence with all the grace of the Sugar Plum Fairy and slammed the ball through the dumb founded keepers legs. Droitwich heads went down further when Ricky "exocet" Lally flicked the ball into the top corner from a short corner to make it 3-0. A potential banana skin was avoided after we went down to 9 men, Jandu receiving a yellow for "losing his rag" and trying to tell the umpire the rules and Ryan yellow for not knowing the rules and not retreating 5 yards, both a little harsh. The game was rapped up when Tibble was released in the Droitwich half, beat the last man and hit an unstoppable (mainly due to a deflection) shot to make it 4-0. A draw would have been a fair result, but fortunately life isn't always fair. A good start to the 2nd half of the season. |
