Match Report

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you just might find, you get what you need.

But we didn't.

In a tale that sums up our season the tumbling dice of fortune rolled another double one to leave us bottom of the league.

Wolves dominated early on - playing a high paced pressing game like a bunch of wild horses. They took the lead thanks to a follow up shot from a saved penalty corner. Unfortunately our departing captain kicked the ball straight to their centre forward.

Wulfs began to recover through the half thanks to our very own street fighting man Simon Palmer, with a little help from the battling Matt Griffiths and a solid performance from Litchfield.

Unfortunately Wulfs got caught out early in the second half with another goal but Ablard got some satisfaction by pulling one back. Wolverhampton then scored an incredibly lucky deflected goal before Peters crowned a great performance with a bullet.

Wulfs pushed hard for a crucial equaliser and thought they would get it when a goal-bound effort hit a Wolves defender on the line for a penalty stroke. Unfortunately the umpire chose to give a penalty corner instead. But you have to have some sympathy for the devil.

After my 19th nervous breakdown this season I can finally retire as captain. It's been a hell of a ride. Now I can get off of my cloud and leave it all to Griff who I'm sure will do an amazing job again.

Thanks to everyone who has played for me over the three years, and especially in this difficult season. We have been incredibly unlucky not to get more positive results; the hockey has been competitive and enjoyable, and I know everyone has given it everything they have in every game. Thanks to Rich C for his help; Justin, Simon and Mark for coaching; Griff and Birchy for their support and jelly babies. Thanks also to my wife for putting up with me. Especial thanks to all our umpiring friends; I know you have tried your best. Long live Old Wulfrunians HC! ¡Ya basta!
