Match Report | A mix-up over start times lead to a panicked drive to Coventry and a start with no warm-up, plus game time reduced to 60 minutes. Manager Cartwright broke into a thunderous rage of righteous indignation which further upset the Sikh Union players who had been waiting for nearly an hour. Well it served them right but then they started the game hoping to catch Wulfs unprepared. Palmer quickly helped organise the defense and a great team effort held them at bay for some time. Unfortunately Palmer then sustained one of the worst injuries ever seen on a hockey pitch; a severely grazed lip which kept him on the sideline for the rest of the game. I am pleased to report he will definitely survive. Ablard had to clear off the line before Coventry took the lead from a drag-flick.Wulfs levelled with the best goal of the game; a fast counter-attack ended when Rich Roberts slotted into the top corner after the keeper had saved Ablard's shot. Coventry took a 3-1 lead before Wulfs got back into it again, this time Litchfield deflected home a penalty corner effort. As the half neared an end there was controversy when Ablard seemed to clear brilliantly off the line, only for the umpire to award a goal. 4-2 at half time seemed to kill off the threat from Old Wulfs and Coventry pressed home their advantage in the second half. |
