Match Report

The rearranged game against Wednesbury took place last Sunday at a wet and windswept Willenhall Academy.  Conditions were so bad that amongst ourselves we were hoping for a waterlogged pitch and another cancellation.

Wednesbury had the benefit of a blank Saturday the previous day. Old Wulfs had the benefit of another outing with their new look team containing five new members, being Craig Thomas returning to the club following a seven year sabbatical, returning emigrant Dave Foster from Chicago, new recruit from RAF Cosford Iain Gray , and two newly promoted lads from Team five being Kai Thorpe and Sam Aldersley.

We made very heavy weather of most of the first half falling behind to a goal which came about as a result of Old Wulfs being awarded a short corner, As soon as Adrian Hill injected the ball, the home side were awarded a free hit apparently because one of our attackers had his toe on the circle.  Wednesbury took a quick free hit and managed to score, while we were wondering what was going on. This looked like a well rehearsed move which paid dividends.  Old Wulfs managed to equalise following a solo run by Adam Tustin along the baseline, slipping the ball to Gary O'Sullivan to score from about three feet out.   Half time, honours even.

Second half created a problem for us,insofar as Gary O'Sullivan went over  his ankle, requiring a trip to New Cross. I am pleased to report that he is recovering, but will be out for about 4 weeks.

The stoppage seemed to work to our advantage, as we dominated the rest of the game and were rewarded with Kai Thorpe scoring the winning goal, which made for a very satisfactory weekend by garnering 2 wins and 6 points . A welcome return to winning ways.

Next week we have a top of the table game against Sutton Coldfield.
