Match Report | Messrs Thomas, Munn, Ward N, Cooper R, Cooper A Snr, Greatrex, Harrison, Preese and Howell from Old Wulfs, Spinks S from Wton & Tettenhall and Roberts C Snr from Finchfield made the trip to Deeside Ramblers near Tarporley for their Round 1 game in the EH O50's Trophy competition. All were in peak condition having abstained from alcohol and slept long and soundly on the Saturday evening (there may be some 'license' in that bit!) Both sides played competitively and in a good spirit, and there were chances at both ends - including short corners - that could have taken the result either way; but at full time it was 0 - 0.....and so to penalty strokes......... Each team nominated 5 stroke takers and Deeside took the first - and scored; Old Wulfs took their first stroke......and the Deeside keeper saved it; Deeside took their second and Thomas saved it; OW took their second and scored - all even again at 1 - 1 score and 2 strokes taken each. Deeside took their third and scored; Old Wulfs took their third and scored - still even at 2 - 2 score and 3 strokes taken. Deeside took their fourth and Thomas saved again.....Old Wulfs took their fourth and scored - 3 - 2 to Old Wulfs and 4 strokes taken each. The final taker stepped up for Deeside - and Thomas saved again - giving Old Wulfs victory 3 - 2 on penalties. The scorers of the three successful penalties were Messrs Spinks S, Cooper R and Harrison. Thomas was Man of the Match! Despite losing, Deeside provided an excellent lunch after the game whilst we were watching (through the panoramic windows in their clubhouse) and group of slightly younger players (!) in a re-arranged league game. A good win, well worth the trip. Next round 1st February against Sutton at home |
