Match Report |
The badgers came out confidently for this local derby and the teams were well matched. This made for a very competitive and fast paced game. The now well drilled unit of Tom, Jack, Callum and Ben dominated in attack playing some fantastic hockey. Wolverhampton absorbed attack after attack and had little to offer going forward. Against play however, Wolverhampton broke and were able to get through our, until then, solid defence. Billy and Harry covered their players well and James, newly positioned in midfield worked his socks off for the whole game. Dan played his A game in goal, great confidence and reading the attacks. Out of our 7 short corners, we managed to get one in before half time!!! A goal again finally!!! but oddly, and for no reason we could understand, it was not allowed, doubly painful as goals have been so rare and the team had worked so hard for it. The badgers continued to push on the second half, with some of their best passing hockey, but we lacked that final 1% on goal and couldn't convertĀ our numerousĀ chances. Wolverhampton scored one more, to take it to 2 - 0. The badgers pressed hard for the final 10 minutes, and given a few more minutes our fitness would have opened things up, but alas, at the final whistle the game ended 2 - 0. Amazing effort, amazing young team. Dan and Jack were voted joint man of the match by their team.
