Match Report

So, Goliath was coming around to David’s place and having heard the rumours, was in no mood for messing around with slings and rocks, he would crush David – and so it was. On the face of it, at 10-0, a thumping for the badgers. From the warm up it was clear that a team of young adults from Old Hales was going to be way too strong for this young badgers team. However, this team continues get on with the job and get stuck in. 7-0 in the first half, but an impressive 3-0 in the second half where it could have been a cricket score. Highlights: (1) Work-rate – we were a very small side in comparison (Harj and I included), and with Old Hales covering the pitch with athletic ease, Thomas, Jack and Callum held up to them well; (2) Attitude again was awesome all the way through - their coach congratulated our team and was clearly impressed; (3) Defensive line, Rhea, James and Rajveer did well, but what made me smile was watching Harj’s mind work out which of the 3 or 4 attacking players to tackle – and pretty much getting it right without fail; (4) Very almost scoring, almost all their team were in their D for our best chance in the second half; and finally (5) The second half performance, there were 20 minutes where the badgers held them without score, excellent, the 3-0 was a mammoth 60% improvement on the first half (so David really did take Goliath down when it mattered!). Things to work on: we need to avoid softer goals and score more – easy! Man of the match went to Dan in goal who saw lots of action, but was particularly on form in the second half. Well done everyone.
