Match Report |
This was the toughest opposition we have faced, certainly in the second half of the season. Again we faced an older, bigger and more experienced team and this was always going to be an uphill struggle and indeed should have been a shambolic one sided affair. But, resolute, positive and there to enjoy playing hockey, the badgers got on with the job and used the great experience gained over the last few weeks to just play - and play well. The defence of Bhav, Rajveer and James, supported by the now very fit midfield of Jack, Thomas and Callum, were able to cover and tackle brilliantly for the first 20 minutes, keeping Sutton out and creating some chances. However, the sheer physicality started to show and Sutton pushed forward and ended the half after a series of well created chances to finish the half 4–0. In the second half the work-rate was fantastic as this was all set for a whitewash. Our younger team would need to pull off the miraculous to even compete. The badgers midfield, led by Callum, created some great chances for Sahib and Ben up front, but the enormous defensive line was impenetrable. Deep into the second half, with one of quite a few driving runs from defence, there was fantastic father/son combination – Sahib finishing in the D with a nicely worked goal. The badgers had two or three more good chances, but the second half finished 2-1, overall 6-1. Sahib was voted man of the match, for breaking the towering defence. Well done everyone!
