Match Report

With a run of good performances, the badgers came into this home game against a very strong, older and organised Barford side, with a sense of confidence and some excellent team spirit. It was always going to be a huge test to avoid a large score, but with good shape, fitness and work-ethic, the badgers played excellently through the first half, containing Barford well, with James, Rhea and Rajveer defending and with Dan making some great saves. Two goals from Barford in the first half was a great result for us, and it could have been more even as the badgers continued to create lots of chances.

Could the badgers keep up the epic work-rate in the second half?

This was going to be a tough ask, but once again this team exceeded all expectations and worked their socks off, with Callum, Tom and Jack in midfield, and Paul, Anya, Ben and Sahib up front. Barford scored another two, but following short corner ping pong, Jack bullied his way through and scored a cracking goal – well deserved as Jack had worked so hard all game. There followed a series of 12 attacking short corners for the badgers, and with the crowd growing on the side of the pitch the atmosphere built in the last 10 minutes of the game; but, alas there were no more goals. This was our best performance this season and 4-1 was a big improvement compared to last time we played Barford (8-2). Anya and Callum gave us more attacking options – holding the ball up the field in attack. Jack was named man of the match for controlling the left hand side of the pitch and ultimately his goal. Well done everyone!
