Match Report

The badgers travelled to Old Hales with some trepidation following a series of defeats and one player short, so just the 10. This was slightly offset at the prospect of having three dads and four sons on the pitch, the Wall, Gardner, Nightingale combination, together with the Jandu brothers – a family affair. This really was a game of two contrasting halves. The badgers started well, with good passing hockey from Tom, George and Jack, creating some good chances on goal for Callum and our loaned player. While Old Hales were clearly more experienced and strong in attack, the badgers defended well, with some cracking tackles from James and they dominated possession. At the end of one move George was put through for the first goal. More well balanced hockey followed, with both the badgers and Old Hales taking opportunities, the half ended 2-1 to Old Wulfs. A really fantastic first half against strong opposition. The badgers came out well again in the second half, tackling well from the start and holding a good shape on the pitch. Some great chances from both sides, but the tension was rising on the pitch. The badgers had a number of chances and least two shorts, but were unable to convert these. Even with some super saves from Dan (he also may have lost his voice), Old Hales were able to create a couple of soft chances and took both. The final 10 minutes of the game was well set at 3-2 to Old Hales, but they defended well, and after some niggle decided to take their time from the 16s – disappointing to say the least. This was genuinely an awesome performance from this young side. Dan was voted man of the match by his team.
