Match Report |
The badgers team travelled to Barford Tigers with a sense of foreboding, fielding the youngest team so far, with an 8 year old (Harry), two 9 year olds (James and Billy), our 10 year old goalie and left winger (Dan and Anya), 11 year old Ben, 12 year old centre forward Callum and 13 year old Thomas. A brave start, with some impressive hockey from Barford up the middle of the pitch, but defended excellently by James on the left and Billy on the right. Dan put in some great saves, working hard to cover his goal. The badgers on the break, used the full width of the pitch and put Callum through for a well finished goal 1 – 0. Barford responded and their experience started to show, equalising and then scoring another to make it 2 -1 at half time. The badgers started the second half well, but Barford once again dominated the midfield and pushed forward to make the score 3 – 1. Some great positional play play from Anya, Ben and Callum in attack, gave the badgers plenty of options, and with another push forward, a strike from Callum was saved, but after a bit of goal line pinball, Ben passed the ball over the line. 3 – 2. Once again the experience and age of Barford started to show, with our defence struggling to absorb the relentless attacks in the last 20 minutes. Barford seemed to make the most of every opportunity, and while the badgers had a number of attacking chances, they were unable to convert. The score of 8 – 2 would suggest a walkover, but this was a well fought match right to the end; this team never gives up - a very proud captain! Ben was voted man of the match by his team.
